On the image attached we can see the counting rate of the diamond (Red) going up linearly while Vamos (blue) staty stables.
This is understood as the diamond's graphite impurities charging up with the beam, so the baseline is moving up and we trigger more and more on noise. At some point I expect the counting rate to start dropping as the detector is no longer polarized.

The beam size in the FP of VAMOS was found of about: 150 mm !!!

Test 2: 14O beam on target with hole (Diameter of the hole=7mm) and CATS2 out
The beam size in the FP of VAMOS was found of about: 3 mm (to be checked with the run 112)

The beam size in the FP of VAMOS was found of about: 30 mm (to be checked with the run 114)

==> The problem of huge broadening of the beam size in test 1 was not due to straggling in CATS2

Fixed, , Wed Jan 22 18:39:54 2020, Marlène & Franco, GRIT, Hardware, , Tests of the new box box_pin_map.pdf
The new box has been tested together with the new CAEN SY4527 power supply. We connected a laptop with Linux to the power supply by means of an ethernet cable and communicated with it by opening a browser (http://192.168.0.1, then username: admin and pwd: admin). To control the channels we open a terminal, go to the folder where we saved the file ChannelsController.jar and run the command: java -jar ChannelsController.jar 192.168.0.1 admin admin
The output biases were checked with a test cable connected to the flange output and are reported in the attached file. For comparison we did the same thing on 3 Mugast detectors (MG1, MG3 and MG4) We saw that the polarity of all the 3.3V in the new box was inverted with respect to the Mugast box so we opened the box and, like sappers, we followed the colored cables until we found the ones giving the 3.3V and inverted them. It worked! So now the biases should be correct. A reminder for possible future modifications: the coupled colours for the wires are blue-grey, white-brown, yellow-green.
Some low voltages seem to be unused because they are present in some BT outputs but not in others, but anyway the detectors which are supplied by these cables have always been working properly, so the small differences between different BT outputs might be irrelevant.
It is then important to notice that BT2 and BT3 have a -2.5V instead of a +2.5V so it's recommended not to use them unless the relative cables are first switched inside the box.

The electronics set-up for MUGAST2020 has been tested with 4 MUVI on 4 VXI crates, 1GMT for MASTER and 3 GAMERS for slaves.

Configuration file is named mugast.das
We have modified the mugast.detector and the parameters for MUVI4 with names:
- MUVI4_ch1 : MG2
- MUVI4_ch2 : MG6
- MUVI4_ch3 : MG8
- MUVI4_ch4 : MG12 (not used and not tested)
For the 3 first channels of MUVI4 we connected MG1, MG3 and MG4.

Cables for MUVI4_ch2 is not working (to be repaired).

With the alpha source (double side) we were able to run during all night and it was stable (attached are pictures of alpha source).
We notice that the rate of MG7 is lower (1/3) than the other ones (as usual). We tried to increase bias but leakage current is also increasing proportionally.
We also notice that 3alpha source shows lower statistics in the last (higher energy) peak but all detectors backward see the same.
The rates of MG2 and MG8 are consistent (there was no pedestal suppression).

We performed a pulser test of MUVI4 putting 5000Hz rate. The dead time is about 97%. It is consistent with MUVI1 in the same condition (5000 Hz and no pedestal suppression). The dead time is 90% when we suppress the pedestals.

Test performed using a 100 Hz pulser signal send into the master trigger (entry 9 on GMTMASTER) and the analogical part send into a amplifier then split in 3 signal send to VXI MUGAST , VXI CATS and VXI Vamos.
No problem observed. See first image below (test_corel_Pulesr_all.png)

Didn't work properly with a tac signal divided in 3 or from 3 tacs with same start /stop. See test_corel.png and test_corel_2000.png
This might be due to the time calibrator trigger as it is very random and pile-up effects can contribute. Maybe with a very low trigger rate might work

  • The tac plot look convincing to me, the diagonal peaks seems to hold almost all the stat.
  • On the other hand I found it difficult to conclude from the pulser one, seems all event hold the same value, any miscorrelation in the merger would lead to the same plot.

To make sure the mate work correctly we took an alpha run with a delayed fag on the MUVI stop:
- all mate register a time in the the middle of the range as expected (fag delayed by 350ns, range is 600ns)

Test with time calibrator, all channel are enable, pulser on channel 3 of each mate T1X:
- energy spectrum: pulser where we expect it.
- we expect to see a time calibrator spectrum on channel 3 of each mate. instead we see times spectrum on Channel 3 of mate 1 and 2, channel 12 of mate 1, channel 14 of mate2. nothing else

Conclusion

The problem was that the synctst had to be checked and ord unchecked

In response to Franco's comment here, I ran some quick TWOFNR simulations for a 0f5/2 transfer on to 4 MeV, on to spin 2 or 3. The attached files are named as follows:

24.f52_4MeV_sp3 - Transfer via 0f5/2 on to a spin 3 state at 4 MeV
24.f52_4MeV_sp2 - As above, but spin 2.

See the attached image for a plot of these two results, compared to a 1p3/2 transfer to 143keV, spin 2, and a 1p1/2 transfer to 1984 keV, spin 1.

Hope these are helpful!
