Analysis of run0072 (two hours accumulation).

Attachment 1:
Reconstructed beam image. The ring should correspond to the cell's frame.

Attachment 2:
Definition of cuts. The central region of the target was selected and then named "targ".

Attachment 3:
Particle identification. Deuterons are well separated.

Attachment 4:
Elab-theta plot. The target and deuteron cuts were applied. Kinematics curves of the (p,d) reactions are seen.

Attachment 5:
Elab-theta again. Calculated kinematics curves were superimposed.
An energy correction factor of 0.8 has to be introduced to reproduce the curves (probably due to the incomplete energy calibration).
In addition to the ground-state transition, excited states with spectroscopic factors larger than 0.4 are also shown. See PRC 48, 95 (1993) for the details.

Attachment 6:
Angular distribution of 40Ca(d,p)39Ca(1/2+) from the reference. A similar oscillating pattern was observed in the Elab-theta plot.

EDIT: the deviation from the kinematics was due to an incorrect beam energy.

Order-of-magnitude estimate of the target thickness.

We have about 5000 counts of 40Ca(p,d)39Ca(g.s.) in an angular range of 10-30 degrees.
The total beam flux is calculated as follows.

2 hours x 1.5 x 10^5 pps = 1 x 10^9 particles
About half is on target -> 5 x 10^8 particles

By assuming the 5-mb cross section (integrated with respect to the cm angle),
and ignoring the Jacobian and the detector coverage, we get

thickness = 5000 counts / (5 mb x 5 x 10^8 particles) = 2 x 10^21 cm^-2

9H10: D5 stopped at 9H10. We asked for the beam.

9H48: Still no beam. There is a problem with the beam current limits set in the accelerator. They have to change it from 40 nAe between CO1 and CSS1 to 3.8 µAe after CSS2.

10H05: Still no beam. Vincent arrived for the air conditioning of D6.

10H23: No beam. They have to re-align the beam in the alpha line.

11H45: Beam is back after alignment of the entrance of the LISE line

I would share the temperature log of the target cell during warming it up.
The thick line is the heat shield and the thin line is the cell.
The heat shield may takes 2 hours to reach 200 K and 6 hours for 270K.
Note that we need 45 minutes to evaporate liquid hydrogen before warming up.

We started cooling the target cell at 13h03.

The U2M scaler data cannot be recorded to the data in the current version of Narval. So there were no scaler data during the measurement of 40Ca.

To resolve the situation, we added register parameters for specified channels of U2M. This allows us to record the counts of a given channel at each event.

dans l'onglet Parametres de l'U2M, créer un "parametre sur registre" en choisissant le registre U2M_SCALERS et l'item correspondant à la voie désirée (item 0 pour la première voie, item 1 pour la deuxième voie...).

Sauver la config DAS (donc attention à ce qu'elle soit entièrement correcte, notamment pour les MUVI ...).

Ouvrir le fichier action, ajouter "READ/PARAM=nom_du_parametre"

Suaver le fichier action puis le compiler.

INIT dans le Run Control.

Relanceer le online.

It was found that the energy threshold of the strips was as high as 1 MeV. This threshold setting was chosen for the calibration and was never set back to the nominal threshold (0.4 MeV) for experiments.

Lowered to 0.4 MeV.

Note that due to the low energy threshold, triton of energies higher than 70 MeV were partially rejected during the measurement of 40Ca(p,t).
