In the weekend after the experiment e775s (7-8 March 2020) a problem with the cooling system of Mugast occurred. In particular, in the morning of Saturday 7th around 12h the cooling system tripped and some detectors remained switched on until Monday 9th in the morning. After a check, it looks like all Mugast detectors are ok except MG6, which cannot be biased anymore.
The alpha calibration run of the weekend (run_0193) is divided into 55 runs. Runs from .0 to .11 can be safely used for the post-experiment alpha calibration, those from .12 to .54 are probably useless to this aim.
In the first attachment is the evolution of the DSSD energy (of all telescopes together because it's the calibrated energy) for run .12, that started on Saturday 7th at 11.43 and ended at 12.55. At the end of the run it is evident that something wrong is going on with the detectors. In the following runs this behaviour is confirmed and going even worse.
In the second attachment is the evolution of the DSSD energy for MG6 and for MG1 in run .13, so right after the cooling system tripped, showing that MG6 immediately "suffered" much more the heating-up.
In the last 2 attachments are the raw energies for X and Y of MG11 in run 0524 done on Monday 9th afternoon after we re-biased the detectors compared with run 0193 (from .9 to .11) before the cooling system tripped. It looks like the part of MG11 X from strip 35 to 50, that before the heating was having the 4-peaks behaviour, now behaves normally, while the Y is still the same, with 3 missing strips.

- MG6 (FZ) is disconnected.
- MG7 (500um) is dismounted and MG8 (375um) is replacing it.
- The Y kapton of the annular has been changed.

Attached the alpha source spectra acquired on March 11th after the changes described above.
- MG8 looks better than MG7 but it looks like a part on X that was missing on MG7 is also missing on MG8, it can be due to a kapton.
- The annular behaves exactly as before and during e775s, the change of kapton did not solve the problem.
- MG9 here was not biased (it is on the MUST2 box).
Fixed, TEST, Wed Mar 11 18:12:40 2020, Marlène & Franco, GRIT, Hardware, N/A, Update on Mugast
(Probably) final update of the status of the detector before the experiment:

- MG5 does not trigger on Y (no pulser, no alpha source). This can explain why in the last experiment we could not run the time calibration of its Y.
- We changed kapton on MG7 but we still miss the same part of the detector. This points to a problem of the board...
- There is nothing we can do for the moment for MG11, the re-bounding would take too long. We will keep it like this.
- MUST2 detectors have higher current than usual but the signals from alpha source are fine.
- MM1 was changed but still shows the problem of the fluctuation of current. We also tried to change the HV supply (now it's on MG6) but nothing changes. This also seems to point to a problem of the board...
- We noted that, with circulation of alcool-water liquid (but no cooling), the temperature of MG7 is around 45 degrees, about 20 degrees higher than the other Mugast detectors.

After 2h30' of run we checked the temperatures of the boards and we noticed that MG7 had 63 degrees on both X and Y, which is very high; MG9 was around 56 on X and 26 on Y. There might be a problem in the loop of the cooling system because the other detectors are pretty fine, with temperatures around 20-25 degrees.
In attachment the evolution of the (calibrated) DSSD energy for MG7 during the run.

Fixed, TEST, Thu Mar 12 10:14:02 2020, Marlène & Franco, GRIT, Hardware, N/A, Debugging the cooling system
We realized that the increase of temperature of MG7 and MG9 during run 600 (alpha calibration) was due to the fact that a loop of the cooling system was not working since the pipes were not properly connected. We re-connected them and switched on the low voltage without making the vacuum just to monitor the evolution of the temperature.

Temperature after 10 minutes from the LV switch on:
MG1 X = 20 deg; MG1 Y = 18 deg
MG3 X = 20 deg; MG3 Y = 19 deg
MG4 X = 19 deg; MG4 Y = 17 deg
MG5 X = 21 deg; MG5 Y = 19 deg
MG7 X = 20 deg; MG7 Y = 18 deg
MG2 X = 20 deg; MG2 Y = 19 deg
MG11 X = 20 deg; MG11 Y = 19 deg
MG9 X = 56 deg; MG9 Y = 26 deg --> We believe that we cannot really trust these values, they didn't change since yesterday evening and the board is cold (we touched it)

MM1 X = 18 deg; MM1 Y = 18 deg
MM2 X = 18 deg; MM2 Y = 18 deg
MM3 X = 18 deg; MM3 Y = 18 deg
MM4 X = 19 deg; MM4 Y = 18 deg
Fixed, TEST, Thu Mar 12 14:47:59 2020, Marlène & Franco, GRIT, Hardware, N/A, Moving MG9 square to MUVI2
- Since we are not using MG6 anymore (card burnt), we replaced it with MG9 on slot 3 of MUVI2. MUVI4 is now unused. We changed the actions parameters accordingly.
- We cannot run the time calibration for MG9 because the pulser does not go through neither on X nor on Y.
Fixed, e793s, Thu Mar 12 14:54:13 2020, Marlène & Franco, GRIT, General, 3-alpha, Run 0601 - alpha source calibration HV_run601.png
We start the alpha source calibration run with pedestal suppression (except for MG7 and MG9) and cooling at 0 deg.
The HV for MUST2 are in attachment. It is not clear whether they will remain unchanged during the experiment since some currents are high.
Fixed, e793s, Thu Mar 12 15:48:58 2020, Franco&Marlène, GRIT, General, , Summary and TO DO list 12/03/2020
What remains to be done
- Do the time calibration of all boards (time calibrator has to be connected)
. When checking the pulser on all boards we saw that MG5 has no triggers on Y and MG9 does not see the pulser (neither X or Y). So we will not get time calibration for those
- Plug the STOP in the MUVI (either clean HF that was used in the previous experiment or CATS2 clean that was also prepared during the last experiment but should be connected)
- Rename parameters in the GECO of the experiment
. We now run only with 3 MUVI, MG9 (square) is put in channel 3 of MUVI2 (where MG6 was plugged before)
. We changed the names for the ACTION_mugast.CHC_PAR but it has to be done for the experiment file)
- Targets will be mounted last week before the experiment. The surveyor have to remeasure the position of all targets.
- hvm_watcher has to be modified according to the changes made on the distribution boxes :
. MG9 is on the LV/BT of the new distribution box on channel 6
. MM1 is on channel 5 of the MUST2 distribution box (instead of channel 1).

We noticed instabilities in the current of the MUST2 detectors : T1 is fluctuating from time to time and T2 current is increasing slowly but surely.
We now run with 60V on MM1 and MM2 and 70V on MM3 and MM4.
The fluctuations on MM1 are usually solved when cooling down to 0 degree.

!! We do not leave HV and LV on when there is nobody to check the temperature of the boards and the coolers.

MUGAST is undervacuum thanks to Arnaud and Laurent.

I switch on all BT and HT. everything fine so far. Keeping the HV to check there is no trip on the silicon

I put back the supply of MM1 to the channel 1 of the MUST2 box (as in the normal configuration) and polarized the detectors to make a rapid re-check. I didn't see any detector tripping. MM1, switched on only for a couple of minutes, had a stable current at 1.3 uA. The stability of the detectors over time should anyway be checked better tomorrow leaving them polarized for a longer time.

We re-mounted the annular, put the source and cooled down to 0 deg. Voltages and spectra are attached.
MG11 has a very high current (15 uA) but stable. MG9 started from 2 uA and its current is slightly increasing. The MUST2 detectors don't show anymore that oscillation in current that we observed one year ago. MM3 has a higher current (2.9 uA) with respect to the others.
Only 5 sectors are working for the annular, 8 less than last year. We need to check whether it is a problem of the kapton or of the detector itself.
Fixed, TEST, Thu Feb 4 18:16:47 2021, Franco, GRIT, Hardware, 3-alpha, Problems with the annular persist 8x
We opened the chamber to verify the connections of the kaptons but they were all well connected. We checked with the tester the conductivity of the kapton YA5 and it was fine so we excluded any problem related to the kapton. The boards are working properly (the pulser is well seen). We have to conclude that the problem comes from the detector. We made another alpha source run and indeed the result is the same as yesterday -> 5 sectors working on Y. We also tried to rise the HV of the annular up to 95V instead of the nominal 80V: the current went to 19 uA but no new sector appeared in the spectra.
Apart from the usual spectra, attached are also the pedestals of MG11, the alpha spectrum for ch48 of MG11_Y (one of the working sectors). The HV were the same as yesterday.
Fixed, TEST, Fri Feb 5 12:44:42 2021, Franco, GRIT, Hardware, N/A, Pulser on MG11 MUFEE Y pulser_all_channels_MG11Y_05022021.pngpulser_all_strips_MG11Y_05022021.pngWorking_rings_annular_05022021.png
I managed to obtain the spectrum with the pulser on the annular (Y side, namely sectors).
The raw strip numbers where I should have the 16 sectors are: 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 36, 38, 40, 42, 44, 46, 48 and 50.
The 5 strips I could see with the alpha source are: 20, 40, 44, 48, 50.
Now with the pulser I don't see the following strips: 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, 36, 40, 42, 44, 48, 50.
So the pulser apparently doesn't go through most of the channels that are connected to a sector and all the channels that were ok with the alpha source now don't see the pulser...
The plots below are the pulser energy vs the raw strip number with a zoom on the region where I should have all the sectors. The plot below is the projection on X (strip number) of the first plot, now considering all the strips -> only strips connected to sectors don't show the pulser peak.
Concerning the rings, most of them see the alpha source but only few of them (the ones between the two red lines in the last figure attached) correctly display three peaks. The others have many peaks as a result of missing sectors on the Y side.

Pulser goes on all channel and works well so electronic is fine.
We will ask Laurent to remount the detector and re run the test.
