Fixede748 Sat Jun 17 10:22:43 2017 Adrien MattaEXLHardware EXL ADC gate
EXL ADC is now setup with individual gate on the ADC.

We also put the threshold higher to reduce the rate and managed to work on timing.

We still think we need to delay the trigger output from the Mesytec module so the GMT is not triggered too soon.

However its appears that the trigger arrive 40-60us before the signal. Not sure if the AI output of the ADC is working properly, need to check this with Fred.

After checking the signal on the scope out of the MSC16 everything is in time.
Fixede748 Sat Jun 17 10:27:26 2017 Adrien MattaONLINESoftware Starting the GRU online analysis
We setup a script to start the right environment to run GRU, ganil2root and nptool.

The script is located in /home/muvi/e748 and can be accessed by just typing online in the terminal.

This will start bash and source the relevant files.

Online and offline GRU script are located in the /home/muvi/e748/nptool/Projects/e748/online and /home/muvi/e748/nptool/Projects/e748/offline respectively.

The GUser class in both folder need to be compiled using the provide Makefile (so just do make after editing the GUser.cxx and GUser.h).

To start the GRU spectra server for online go to the online folder and type GRU Online.cxx

To convert a single file from .dat to .root go to the offline folder and type GRU Offline.cxx
Fixede748 Sat Jun 17 10:32:25 2017 Adrien MattaONLINESoftware Online/Offline list of task
We need to do the following improvement to the online / offline environment:

  • Provide two separates script for starting Online and Offline environment, that goes directly to the right folder. : Done
  • Make an Offline program instead of a script, so we can provide argument : Done bu Valerian and Adrien
  • Make a bash script for automatic conversion of the runs : Done by Valerian

Fixede748 Mon Jun 19 16:03:18 2017 e748EXLGeneral Progress On EXL
We fiddled around with EXL trying to get a reasonnable 60Co spectrum.

We moved the source to the windows flange, so it is now facing the EXL detector with minimal matters inbetween, although rather far away (around 1m).

We set change the hardware gain on the second module, so the last two channels have the same hardware gain than the rest of the detector. This is an hardware gain of 30.

We set the software gain to 0 overall.

We set the software threshold to 15.

A rought estimate made this a 7 MeV range with a 300 keV threshold.

We are taking data (run 15) to check that.
Fixede748 Mon Jun 19 16:04:51 2017 e748RUNGeneral3-alphaRun 15
Run 15 is started.
Source: We have a 3 alpha source in target position and a 60Co on the window flange.
Trigger: EXL
Fixede748 Mon Jun 19 16:36:07 2017 e748EXLHardware Gain changed on EXL
Run 15 online analysis showed waht we believe was 4 MeV range.

So we change the hardware gain on EXL to 2 on the first module and 5 on the second one (channel 17 and 18).

We changed the software gain to 9 on the first module and 6 on the second module.

We left the threshold to there previous values.

Fixede748 Wed Jun 21 09:05:26 2017 Adrien Matta, Phil AdsleyMUST2General MUST2 Dead Time
We cabled the Dead time in the scaler.
We have a 100Hz pulser (entry 2 of U2M) in coincidence with the DT output of the GMT (entry 1), giving a direct reading of the dead time.

Note on MUST2 dead time:
- Without zero suppression the dead time caused by MUVI is 2ms. So this give a 40% DT at 180 counts per second.
- With zero suppression, the DT fall down to 240us (80us cash in to interrupt the CPU and, 80us to process the signal from MUVI to CAS and 80us to send the parameter back to the back plane). So this give a 5-7% DT with 180 counts per second.
- The ADC works in parallel of MUVI, so the DT are not cumulative.

Three cables came back from ASCO, two of them were the original spare cables.

Report from ASCO:
  • The spare could not work because two pins were soldered together, so the spare never worked
  • The other one had a broken pin on the fisher side. Try not to twith the cable when rotating the connector to plug it on the flange.

All Telescope now pass the I2C test.

We ran with an alpha source (attached pictures for the overall sequence),

1. at first the source was at 0deg: T1-4 OK; T6 got half of X strip missing, Y Ok; T7 got half Y missing, X Ok. T5 and 8 see nothing
2. source at 150 deg: T1-4 see nothing; T6-7 see nothing, T8 Ok; T5 got every other strip missing on 3/4 of Y (surely a capton issue).
3. source at 90 deg: T6-7 OK.
