Adrien, Freddy and the world | OFFLINE | General | N/A | Mask reconstruction CATS1-CATS2 run 223 |
Mask between CATS1 and CATS2 in Z=-2190 Reconsctruction with nptool and attached mugast.detector and ConfigCATS.dat attached.
The beam seems to be shifted strongly to the left of the beam line during the run. not clear yet if the shift of the mask is due to :
- shift of cats
- shift of the mask itself

Adrien, Freddy and Franco | GRIT | General | 3-alpha | Alpha calibration and noise on MG3 and MG4 after the experiment |
While starting the alpha source runs after the experiment we found unexpected noise on MG3 and MG4 which cannot be excluded just by masking some Y mates (The X mates were already masked for both of them). We cannot figure out the origin of this noise.
Run 652 and 653 -> alpha runs without pedestal suppression
Run 655 -> alpha run during the night with pedestal suppression. Here MG3 and MG4 are not in the trigger.
Run 658 -> alpha run after an attempt to mask some noisy strips. The number of ORD is anyway high (some 10^4) but we see some alphas on MG3 and MG4.
Run 660 -> same as 658 but with higher thresholds on X (8250) and Y (7600 on MG3 and 7950 on MG4) to write less on disk but actually nothing changes. Therefore we are writing about 2.7 GB per hour.
The other runs (654, 656, 657 and 659) can be discarded. |

Adrien et Valerian | OFFLINE | General | N/A | Converting data and adding stat to Kine Plot |
Here is a procedure to convert a run and add data the Kinematic plot.
Every 4Go there will be a file change, convert the file and add it to the chain using the following step:
Step O: Take your favorite ortholinear keyboard
Step 1: Login in the right environment
- open a terminal from one of the mugast computer
- type lpcgrit to login to lpcgrit and source the right environmt
- you should see red lpcgrit invite of command
Step 2: Convert the file using the offline program
This Convert the file from the ganil .dat file and contained only MUGAST and CATS stuff
- type npp MUGAST/offline in the terminal to reach the correct folder
- ./Offline run_com2019/run_0ZZZ-DD-MM-YY.HHhMMmSSs root_com2019/run_ZZZ_0.root
- OR
- ./Offline run_com2019/run_0ZZZ-DD-MM-YY.HHhMMmSSs.R root_com2019/run_ZZZ_R.root
Step 3: Analyse the file using the npanalysis program
This could be used with any file, either from Offline conversion, or the VAMOS Analysis conversion or the Merged Tree from AGATA.
- type npp MUGAST in the terminal to reach the correct folder
there is an error below caused by the ortholinear keyboard, I guess, corrected using a normal keyboard:
- npanalysis -D mugast.detector -C Calibration.txt -E ./Reaction/16Odp.reaction -T offline/root_com2019/run_0253.root AutoTree -O PhyZZZ.root
- The run will be created in the NPOutputs/ folder
Step 4: Add the file to the KineMacro
- vim macros/Kine.cxx
- Add the new file in the LoadChain method
- root macros/Kine.cxx
- Enjoy the soothing feeling of a smooth knematic line during a late night shift.

Adrien and Valerian | MUST2 | General | N/A | Test TOF must2 |
To make sure the mate work correctly we took an alpha run with a delayed fag on the MUVI stop:
- all mate register a time in the the middle of the range as expected (fag delayed by 350ns, range is 600ns)
Test with time calibrator, all channel are enable, pulser on channel 3 of each mate T1X:
- energy spectrum: pulser where we expect it.
- we expect to see a time calibrator spectrum on channel 3 of each mate. instead we see times spectrum on Channel 3 of mate 1 and 2, channel 12 of mate 1, channel 14 of mate2. nothing else
Conclusion
The problem was that the synctst had to be checked and ord unchecked |

Adrien Matta | OTHER | General | N/A | To do list for the commissioning (please edit!) |
Here is a to do list of thing we should do ahead of the commissioning. Please self assigned task by putting your name next to it. Don't hesitate to ask for help, or clarification or anything you might need.
Timing:
We need to established the timing for CATS and MUST2 and prepare the inspection line to be able to check it during beam time (NO ONE ATTRIBUTED)
[X] CATS signal will come from the CATS crate into a FIFO (CATS FIFO) in the MUGAST NIM bin, from there it is distributed to the TAC and the GMT
(Beyhan, Neils, François)
[X] Add inspection line from the FAG and the CATS FIFO with cables of the same length to the patch panel
(Ruxandra, Nicolas, Freddy)
[X] Calculate the 16O beam speed: yyy mm/ns
6 MeV/A => v= 3.38734 cm/ns
- Provide the CATS1/2 to target length (mécanic or surveyor): xxx mm
- The TOF of the beam from CATS1 To target is: ZZZ ns
- The TOF of the beam from CATS2 To target is: ZZZ ns
- Send a pulser to SYNTEST on MUST2 and CATS and measured the electronic delay between the two
- Add the physical delay and check the signal are aligned in G1
- Check the signal are aligned outside the room (any joke with patch panel cable being of different length
)
- Label the patch panel, we will need to adjust this timing at the beginning of the exeperiment
Do the same for the VAMOS/ MUST2 timing (NO ONE ATTRIBUTED)
Analysis:
Prepare macro for near line analysis: (Padova group) [X]
- 4 panels (d,p): ELab:ThetaLab, Ex with relevant 017 states indicated,Ex-Edc plot, Edc with relevant 017 gammas indicated
- 4 panels (d,d)/(p,p): ELab:ThetaLab, Ex with relevant 016 states indicated,Ex-Edc plot, Edc with relevant 016 gammas indicated
- 4 panels (d,t): ELab:ThetaLab, Ex with relevant 015 states indicated,Ex-Edc plot, Edc with relevant 015 gammas indicated
*** Prepare level scheme with gamma rays for (d,p)17O (d,t)15O and (d,d)16O. Add Sn and Sp, add them to the blog and print them (Cyril Lenain started)
Add agata/vamos branches to MUGAST project (Freddy)
MUGAST :
Do a time calibrator in running conditions with 20-30 ns delay between start and stop (A.Matta/V Alcindor)
- take data: DONE
- analyse them and add calibration to the analysis.

Adrien Matta | MUST2 | Hardware | N/A | Switching on and off LV/HV for MUST2 crate |
HVM group could be used to switch on and off the LV and HV for the MUST2 crate.
The command could be lauched from the analysis environment: start a terminal and type:
> lpcgrit
This will connect to lpcgrit and source the correct environment.
Be careful: HV on mugast should not be on when the BT are off, this could damaged the PAC:
- Power up sequence : switch on BT first, then HV
- Power down sequence :Switch off HV first, then BT.
To switch on group use:
> hvm_group <group name> <on|off>
The following group exist:
- BT-MGA -> Low voltage for GRIT trapezoid and annular detector
- BT-MGB -> Low voltage for GRIT trapezoid
- BT-MUST -> Low voltage for MUST2 and 90 deg
- HV-MG -> GRIT Trap and Annular HV
- HV-MUST -> MUST2 Si and CsI HV
The programme return only once the voltage finished ramping up, so be patient. Once the voltage are set, it will print-out the relevant channel. If a channel trip, the programm print out the status of all the channel.
NB: over voltage on +5V channel is "normal" and ignored as an error by the program
To check the status of the voltage crate use the hvm_print command:
to print VAMOS and MUST2:
> hvm_print
to print MUST2:
> hvm_print MUST2
to print VAMOS:
> hvm_print VAMOS
